21st February was observed at CCDA with solemnity and pageantry

The 21st of February, International Mother Language Day, is an important day in Bangladesh, and various activities and programs take place across the country to commemorate the day. The day honors the Bengali Language Movement of 1952, which aimed to establish the Bengali language as one of the official languages of Pakistan. On this day, people pay tribute to the language martyrs who sacrificed their lives to defend the Bengali language. CCDA Head Office members including Mr. Md. Abdus Samad, Executive Director and Mr. Md. Luthfur Rahman, Deputy Executive Director conformed to the common tradition for this day, which includes laying floral wreaths at the Shaheed Minar, a monument dedicated to the language martyrs. The Head Office members started a procession towards Shaheed Minar from TSC in Dhaka University. Then proceeded towards the Ekushey Book Fair, also known as the Amar Ekushey Grantha Mela, which is an annual book fair held in Dhaka University during February of every year. Visiting the book fair has become a common activity on the 21st of February, as many people visit the fair after paying their respects to the language martyrs at the Shaheed Minar. Outside of Dhaka there is a wide spread of miniature Shaheed Minars created by Government or educational institutions in honor of the language martyrs, where neighboring residents or visitors can place flowers as a mark of respect. Our fellow field colleagues in Branch Offices paid their homage to the martyrs by placing flower wreaths at nearby Shahid Minar. All branches of CCDA celebrated similarly, to inspire solidarity based on understanding, tolerance and dialogue.
